This striking arboral design of nature in the middle of Kenya’s vast wilderness, sticking out its ever so peculiar branches into a bold and beautiful sky, made Eveline decide to leave for a moment her close-ups and paint a landscape.
For Eveline, nature’s most magnificent work of art is the cat. She is impressed with its elegant manners, awed by the look in its eyes and intrigued by its ever so varied character and design. When painting Kenya’s big cats and other wild animals, she focusses on their faces.
Faces of African people, in all their diversities emanating the warmth of their colourful continent, have deeply inspired Eveline from her first live model drawing lesson. When working on their portraits, she tries to find the sparkle in their eyes that makes every day life in Africa shine.
With Kenya’s vast gardens exploding with a tropical abundance of incredible colours and shapes, Eveline never needs to look far for inspiration. Her favourite flower remains the hibiscus, with its ethereal petals in all its varieties.
